Abstract

Abstract

Regarding the Understanding, one characteristic that we oftentimes prioritized is the unprejudicedness. In other words, a good understanding seems to be the one that is neutral to all parties. We try to achieve this objectively value-free understanding by listen to all sides, ponder all arguments or examine all evidences in the way that detach from anything that we consider to be personal prejudices which would cloud our understanding, whether it is our morality, emotion or traditional norm. In practice, this attempt detaches our understanding from our human conditions. This paper will propose that the Understanding is made possible only by prejudices as the pre-understanding conditions of Understanding. A proper understanding is not achieved by trying to be value-free but by becoming aware of the limit of our own prejudices.
